A musical comedy hit bursting with big laughs, bold characters, and Broadway-sized energy!
The Rose Center Theater will be holding auditions- by appointment only- for the Tony-nominated musical Something Rotten!. Set in the Renaissance, this hilarious show follows two brothers trying to write the world’s first musical — and outshine Shakespeare himself.
Something Rotten! is an adult production. The show contains some mature humor, and fast-paced comedy/musical material. Performers of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and experience levels are encouraged to audition. All roles are open.

The production team prefers performers to audition in-person, but will have a small number of self-tape slots available for those who need. Please make the appropriate selection when filling out the form.

WHAT TO EXPECT
The audition will consist of a vocal and dance/movement evaluation. Please limit your song cuts to a max of 60 seconds. If your cut is longer, please be aware that the team may stop you before you reach the end of your cut.
All performers will be taught a short movement/dance combination at the audition.
WHAT TO BRING
Headshot and Resume
Sheet music with no more than 32 bars from a musical theater style song. An accompanist and score will be provided.
If singing to an instrumental backing track please have your music device cued up and ready to plug-in.
Clothes/Shoes you feel comfortable moving/dancing in.

At the invitation of the Artistic team currently scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd between 3PM - 9PM.

CONTRACT
This is an adult, non-union, civic theater production. A pay stipend, dependent upon role, will be provided.
SEEKING
Strong singers, dancers, actors, and performers of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and identities, ages 15+. All Roles Open
Nick Bottom
Baritone (A2–G4), Ambitious and frustrated playwright. The older Bottom brother who is determined to make his mark. Strong comedic timing and confident vocals required.
Nigel Bottom
Tenor (B2–A4), Nick’s sweet, awkward younger brother. A hopeless romantic with a poet’s soul. Strong singer and emotionally grounded actor.
William Shakespeare
Rock Tenor (B2–A4), The rock star of the Renaissance. Flashy, self-absorbed, and charismatic. Think Mick Jagger meets Freddie Mercury.
Nostradamus
Tenor/High Baritone (C3–F4), A wacky, slightly off prophet who foresees the future of musical theater. Comedic character actor with great energy and vocal confidence.
Bea
Mezzo-Soprano (D3–D5), Nick’s supportive and bold wife. Feminist, funny, and secretly dreams of performing. Must be comfortable with light physical comedy.
Portia
Soprano (C4–F#5), Nigel’s love interest. Pure-hearted, sweet, and slightly rebellious. Requires strong vocals with a classic musical theatre feel.
Brother Jeremiah
Baritone (C3–G4), Portia’s overbearing, puritanical father. Must have a commanding presence and strong comedic chops.
Lord Clapham / Master of the Justice
Baritone, Nick and Nigel’s patron. Proper, a bit pompous, but supportive. May double as other ensemble roles.
Minstrels
Tenor, Alto, Soprano, Narrator-style roles that open and close the show. Smooth vocals and strong stage presence. May be doubled with ensemble.
Chorus
A versatile group of singer-dancer-actors to portray: Troupe members, Puritans, Shakespeare fans, Musical theater spoof characters, Tap dancers (featured in “A Musical”). All vocal types and dance levels welcome!
