The energy of live theater is electric, a blend of talent, passion, and pure joy that transports audiences to another world. And at the Rose Center Theater’s production of Oklahoma!, that magic is brought to life by an incredible ensemble, including two dynamic performers: Gina Higginbotham and Carri Anne Manning. Both bring unique journeys and boundless enthusiasm to the stage, proving that theater is a lifelong passion that only gets richer with time.

From Classroom to Center Stage: Gina Higginbotham’s Return to Theater
For Gina Higginbotham, stepping into the ensemble of Oklahoma! is more than just another role—it’s the continuation of a journey she thought had ended long ago. “I am a third-grade teacher, wife, and mom of two,” Higginbotham shares. “I have always loved singing, dancing, and entertaining others. I try to incorporate it into almost everything I do because it makes life easier and so much more fun. In this production of Oklahoma!, I’m in the ensemble—just one of the gals.”
A lifelong performer, Higginbotham’s love for theater started early. “From the time I could talk and walk, I was singing and dancing (and I have the old family videos to prove it).” But as life moved forward, theater took a backseat. “I gave it all up when I went to college to become a full-time elementary school teacher. Shortly after, I got married and had kids, which became all-consuming for me.” It wasn’t until her daughter discovered musical theater that she felt the spark reignite. “Watching her perform lit a fire under me to try again. I had a blast being a part of the Rose’s A Christmas Carol cast this past year, and now I don’t want to stop!”

Carri Anne Manning: A Performer’s Journey Comes Full Circle
For Carri Anne Manning, returning to the stage feels like coming home. “I have been singing and dancing as long as I can remember,” she says. “Living room concerts emulating the Solid Gold Dancers (yes, that dates me), high school productions, professional gigs in college, singing at Carnegie Hall, recording two Telarc records, and performing live with the Cincinnati Pops and the Grammy-nominated Indiana University Singing Hoosiers.”
Despite stepping away for a time, the stage kept calling her back. “Teaching voice lessons, coaching my daughter through her journey in theater—these experiences kept me connected. I am grateful that the Rose Theater embraces talent at all levels and ages. Let the journey continue!”
Why Oklahoma! Still Resonates Today
Beyond the catchy songs and high-energy dance numbers, Oklahoma! remains a timeless classic because of its universal themes. “Although Oklahoma! is set back in a time period much different from the present, I believe the themes and messages still resonate with people today,” Higginbotham explains. “It’s a classic love story with a hero and a villain. It’s funny and simply entertaining, with great music and dancing.” Manning agrees, highlighting the depth of the show. “The production is full of heart, romance, knee-slapping music, and energetic dance scenes. You will love it!”
A Show Full of Unforgettable Moments
With a production as vibrant as Oklahoma!, there are plenty of moments to look forward to. Higginbotham can’t wait for audiences to experience The Farmer and the Cowman. “The song is super catchy, the dancing is fun to watch, and there are a few surprises in store that are sure to keep you engaged.” For Manning, the ballet sequence is a standout. “The ballet is truly a moving scene.”
Why You Can’t Miss This Production
Beyond the show’s timeless appeal, the cast and creative team at Rose Center Theater have crafted a production that stands out. “The talented cast and vision that this brilliant production team has brought to life with the costumes and set pieces make this particular production of Oklahoma! a sight for sore eyes,” Higginbotham says. Manning sums it up perfectly: “It’s moving, entertaining, and heart-warming.” And if you need one final reason to grab your tickets? Higginbotham puts it simply: “It’s good old-fashioned entertainment and safe for the whole family to enjoy.”
