WESTMINSTER, CA - "I knew I wanted to be a performer after seeing Wicked for the first time. I remember telling my mom after the show that I wanted to perform on stage so I could make people feel the way I felt while watching it. I was starstruck and in awe of how talented everyone in the cast was," Caitlin recalls when asked about what drew her to being an actor.
Starting at the age of seven, and having performed in over 40 talent and choir shows as a soloist and guitarist, Caitlin currently shares her talents as President of the Kennedy Singers Program leading over 300 student singers.
Excerpts from our chat:
How do you prepare for an audition? Any good luck rituals?
I listen to "Jump Around" by House of Pain before every audition. My dad used to play it for me before all my softball games, and it has stuck with me throughout the years. It helps me get my energy up and after listening to it, I feel ready to take anything on.
What motivates you as a performer?
Every performance I have seen has changed me in some way. The fact that I could be changing someone's life by doing the thing I love really motivates me.
Do you find anything to be frustrating being a performer?
I think the most frustrating part is when you can't get a specific harmony or piece of choreography down. It can be exhausting when you're trying your hardest and still can't get something right, but if you put the effort in and work hard, you'll get it down and all the frustration will be worth it in the end.
How do you handle rejection?
I handle rejection by realizing that you win some and you lose some and that's okay. There will always be something to improve on, and there will always be more opportunities.
What is your dream role?
Sandy from Grease. Grease is my favorite movie/musical and it would be amazing to have that opportunity. I think I could bring a greater sense of authenticity to the role.
Do you have a favorite actor/performer?
My favorite performer is Anna Kendrick. She is my favorite because she has a beautiful voice and she is an amazing actress. She makes every role she plays so genuine and she is also able to bring a sense of comedy into all of her roles.
Is there a fun fact about you that people wouldn’t be aware of?
A fun fact about me that people may not be aware of is that I am a huge animal lover. I have four dogs and a cat!
Any advice you'd give to other actors or aspiring performers?
Always try your hardest and give 100%! There will be times when the going gets tough, but as long as you never give up, you can be anything you want to be.
