Few roles in musical theater are as iconic as Laurey Williams in Oklahoma!—the strong-willed farm girl caught between love and ambition in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s groundbreaking classic. And at just 18 years old, Hannah Huntington is bringing fresh energy, powerful vocals, and undeniable charm to the role in the Rose Center Theater’s upcoming production.

Huntington, a freshman at Cal State Fullerton’s prestigious BFA Musical Theatre program, is no stranger to the stage. Though this marks her Rose Center Theater debut, she has spent years training and performing with institutions like Norris Performing Arts Center and the New York Conservatory of the Dramatic Arts. Her credits include standout roles in Mary Poppins, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and Chicago—each preparing her for this defining moment.

A Lifelong Love for Musical Theater
“I was introduced to theater by my mom,” says Huntington. “I grew up going to her rehearsals and watching her perform. I was raised among her theater friends, and there was never a second where I doubted that this is where I belong.”
That early exposure to the performing arts turned into a passion. Over the years, Huntington honed her craft, performing alongside her mother and sister in productions like Oliver! “To go from watching my mom to performing with her helped me grow so much. I’ve got to give her a lot of credit for my work ethic during a show!”

The Thrill and Challenge of Oklahoma!
Tackling a Rodgers & Hammerstein score is no easy feat, and Huntington is embracing the challenge head-on. “I am a Rodgers & Hammerstein girl, but a whole score is no joke! Learning and gaining the stamina to sing this music has been both exciting and challenging. I’m so lucky to be performing these classic songs.”
One of her favorite aspects of the production has been working with the cast. “Given that this is my first show here, I knew no one going into it. But everyone has been so kind and helpful. I really appreciate that!”
As for her dream role swap? “Aunt Eller,” she says with a laugh. “That woman has some of the funniest lines in the show. Plus, she’s the best wingman. I think everyone deserves to have an Aunt Eller in their life.”
