The Optimistic Odyssey of Don Quixote: An Interview with Man of La Mancha, Chris Caputo

Step into the world of rose-tinted dreams and daring quests as we delve into the heart of the iconic character, Don Quixote, portrayed by the talented actor Chris Caputo in the mesmerizing production of "Man of La Mancha" at the Rose Center Theater. In this exclusive interview, we journey alongside Chris as he shares his personal connection with Don Quixote's indomitable spirit.

As we sat down with Chris Caputo to discuss his role as Don Quixote, it became abundantly clear that his bond with the character goes far beyond the stage. "What I admire most about this story and this character is his optimistic outlook at life," Chris reveals. "Instead of accepting life as it is with its pain, hunger, and death, he decides to cast that aside and embark on a quest to change things by seeing life as it ought to be. In my personal life, no matter what bad, life brings my way, I step back into the shoes of Don Quixote and turn things around."

This resolute determination to confront life's challenges head-on mirrors Don Quixote's own intrepid journey. Chris Caputo embodies the spirit of his character, channeling his unwavering hope to create an inspiring and relatable portrayal. Whether it's the trials of everyday life or the grand stage of the theater, Chris draws from Don Quixote's outlook to conquer his own battles. But what about those off-stage moments? Chris chuckles as he admits, "Man of La Mancha has been a huge part of my life. From when I was a child and my parents brought home a small statue of Don Quixote, to the moment I first portrayed him on stage, to today, Don Quixote has influenced and changed my life." With a glint of nostalgia in his eyes, he continues, "After performing in this show six times, five as Don Quixote, it is in my bones. The songs and words are always with me. I find myself humming the songs all the time and they lift me up. His words are like a comforting friend reminding me to seek the better outcome. It reminds me that life is a quest, a journey that we only travel once. So why wallow in the bad when you can fly high in the good enjoying the view."
